Dinner Before And Dessert After The Monkee

Since we made such unexpected good time getting to the theatre to see a Monkee, we decided to stop for dinner before the show instead of waiting until the show was over.  Since the Fireman was driving, we naturally found ourselves pulling in to this restaurant to check it out.  The Firehouse Eatery & Pub in Rahway, NJ.  It was a fireman’s dream dinner spot.

The place was immaculate.  Spotless.  The noise level was perfect for dinner time conversations, and the food was delicious.   Check out the menu….fireman inspired names!

Rescue Me Ribs – Firehouse Frys – 3-alarm Chicken!  Very clever.

The onion soup, the elongated onion rings and rib-eye steak in the shape of New Jersey were all delicious.

Two thumbs up for the Firehouse Eatery.  If you find yourself in Rahway, NJ for some reason, check it out….455 St. George Avenue, Rahway, NJ.

After spending the evening with a Monkee, we decided to try the Skylark Diner for something sweet on the way home.

We love to eat at the places Guy Fieri visits during his show “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives”, so this was an easy decision for us.  It was about 10pm when we got there and we had already had dinner, so we just asked for dessert menus to get a little something sweet.  I felt like I was in a restaurant you would see if you lived with The Jetsons.  Everything was very contemporary and clean and polished.

The dessert menu is small, but very appealing and fancy!!  This is not your typical diner – it’s like a fine-dining diner!  Or, as Guy says “A Diner With Bling”.

We got a piece of pineapple upside down cake and a chocolate peanut butter bombe.  The pineapple upside down cake was topped with rum raisin ice cream.  The chocolate peanut butter bombe was a thin layer of chocolate cake, then a layer of peanut butter mousse, covered in chocolate and drizzled with peanut butter sauce.  It tasted like a soft Snickers bar.

Click here to watch Guy Fieri visit The Skylark Diner.  He is doing a NJ Diner Tour (New Jersey is “The Diner State” you know), but you can fast forward to minute 18:30 to get right to The Skylark.

The Skylark Diner is located at 17 Wooding Avenue in Edison, NJ…on the corner of Route 1 and Wooding Avenue.
